My style tends to shift and change very frequently, depending on my mood, the kinds of things that I watch on the internet, and even the weather. I've never really had a specific style that defines me, either because I haven't found one yet, or because I enjoy experimenting with different styles so much. I enjoy the chaotic, colorful, busy kind of aesthetic, as well as the more minimalistic, muted/diluted color schemes.
When it comes to the more colorful, chaotic kind of style, I love Tyler Spangler's work. He creates these digital collages with really bright and interesting color schemes, that can be seem overloading, but overall give a really nice feeling of wholeness. He uses many different layering and distorting techniques, creating a very interesting and unique end result. Here are some of my favorite works of his...
When it comes to the more minimalistic, simple style that I like, a photographer that I tend to draw inspiration from is Ziqian Liu. I really enjoy her photos because of the minimalism, but also the elegance and fluidity of the shapes and lines that she creates. I also love the way that she incorporates flowers and fruits into the compositions, along with mirrors to create illusions. She uses very simplistic, muted color tones that give a more calming effect. Here are some of my favorite works of hers...
Movies/TV Series...
When it comes to movies, I enjoy a good horror film just as much as I enjoy a comedy, or a coming of age movie. I have always enjoyed wide varieties of movies and tv shows, never settling on just one genre.
Since I was younger, I enjoyed animated shows like Rick and Morty, or Adventure Time. Both of these shows have very bright and varied color schemes, which makes it really pleasant and interesting to watch. They also have a very creative animation style that is the opposite of dull. Plus, the creators were able to create a very absorbing plot that draws viewers in.
I love classic movies from the 80s and 90s too. My favorite classics would have to be The Breakfast Club, The Outsiders, Ferris Buellers Day Off, 16 Candles, and 10 Things I Hate About You. These are probably some of the most well known movies of this time period, yet I feel like they never get old. You can never go wrong with the classics.
I really enjoy watching drama series and mysteries as well. Some of my favorites would have to be: Black Mirror, Stranger Things, La Casa de Papel, How to Get Away with Murder, and The End of the F***ing World. I love this kind of show because there's always some sort of mystery, and suspense that keeps the viewer wanting and craving more.
I also enjoy a more chill kind of sitcom show like That 70's show, or The Fresh prince of Bel-Air. I love these shows because they cover a variety of topics, and combine comedy with other genres like romance, and even drama. Sitcoms tends to have a lot of seasons, which means a lot of character development, and opportunities for plot twists.
Another genre of movie/tv show that I find really interesting is documentaries. I especially enjoy true crime documentaries. I find them extremely captivating because of the way that they take the viewer into the mind of the criminals while offering a psychological perspective. When They See Us is definitely my favorite out of these four because it covers the very real, and pressing issue of police brutality and the racial injustice and corruption in the US justice system. It is based off of the true story of the Harlem Five, and shows each of their stories from beginning to end. I highly recommend this series to anyone.
Music...
I have always enjoyed listening to music. I danced competitively for most of my life, and throughout all of that I developed a really strong love for music. I don't have a favorite genre, and I listen to nearly everything. From 50's and 60's doo-wop and blues (Paul Anka, Frank Sinatra, The Crew Cuts, The Drifters), to rock and reggae from the 70's and 80's (Queen, Prince, Aerosmith, Guns & Roses, Bob Marley), hip hop and pop from the 90's and 2000's (Destiny's Child, Backstreet Boys, No Doubt, Michael Jackson), to alternative, indie, and rap from the more recent times (Arctic Monkeys, Cage the Elephant, Rihanna, Billie Eilish, and so many others). I always alternate between my playlists depending on my mood, and the kind of mood I want to have. Overall, music is a very beautiful way to express yourself and I feel like anyone can find songs that they can relate to, or songs that make them feel a certain way. Here I included some pictures of me about four years ago, right before I quit dance. Once I moved to Romania, I quit dance because it just wasn't the same as before. I may not dance anymore, but it will always be one of my passions, and one of my favorite things to do.
